What does your book taste like?
Every story has a flavour.
Maybe yours tastes like black tea, burnt sugar and cherries.
Maybe it's apple and sage with something strange lingering underneath.
Maybe it's delicate jasmine and pear.
Maybe it's smoke.
Maybe it's honey.
Maybe it's something we haven't thought of yet.
That's where you come in.
At Mourning Manor Apothecary, we create bespoke tea blends inspired by books and the worlds inside them.
We take the atmosphere, characters, setting, themes, and sensory language of your story and translate them into something your readers can actually taste.
Not a book title slapped onto a generic tea.
A flavour profile built from the world you've created.
YOUR STORY. YOUR BLEND.
You don't need to know anything about tea.
You don't even need to know what your book tastes like yet.
Send us your synopsis, manuscript, cover art, mood board, favourite passages, character notes or simply tell us how you want someone to feel when they enter your world.
Maybe there's an ingredient that appears throughout the book.
A character who always smells like oranges.
A garden full of rosemary.
Coffee brewing in the kitchen every morning.
A forest after rain.
The metallic tang of something we probably shouldn't mention over tea.
Give us the story. We'll find the cup.
From there, we'll develop a flavour direction inspired specifically by your work and work with you toward a finished blend that feels like it belongs inside the book itself.
MADE FOR MORE THAN THE MUG
〰️
MADE FOR MORE THAN THE MUG 〰️
Your bespoke blend can become part of the life of your book.
Think:
book launches and author readings
press and influencer mailers
special editions and reader gifts
festival and convention appearances
subscription boxes
giveaways
bookstore events
publisher campaigns
packaged tea for readers to take home
Whether you're an independent author planning an intimate launch or a publisher building a larger campaign, we'll talk about what you're actually trying to create before deciding what the project needs.
Because not every collaboration needs 500 tins and a marching band.
Sometimes 50 beautifully considered teas in the right readers' hands are exactly the point.
FOR BOOKSHOPS & LITERARY SPACES
What Does Your Book Taste Like? can also become part of your programming.
Hosting a launch, a reading, or a visiting author?
Let's create something your audience can experience alongside the book.
Selected collaborations can be developed for café service, event menus, limited-edition retail, author gifts, or special literary programming.
And if you're looking for something that belongs specifically to your space, talk to us about creating a bespoke Mourning Manor house blend for your bookstore, café, or literary venue.
HOW IT WORKS
1. Tell us about the book.
Send us the story, publication date, ideas and what you're dreaming up.
2. We find the flavour.
We explore the book's atmosphere, setting, characters and sensory world and develop a flavour direction.
3. You taste your story.
Samples allow us to refine the blend together before anything goes into production.
4. We make it real.
Once the blend is approved, we move into the appropriate packaging and production format for your project.
5. Your readers drink the story.
Which is, frankly, the fun part.
BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT MY BOOK TASTES LIKE.
Good.
That's one of our favourite places to start.
You don't need to arrive with a list of ingredients. Tell us about the abandoned house. The terrible mother. The impossible romance. The creature in the woods. The summer that went horribly wrong.
Tell us what your book feels like.
We'll start there.
ALREADY KNOW?
Even better.
If you've spent the entire drafting process thinking:
This book is absolutely blackberry, black pepper and smoke...
we very much want to hear about it.
Strange sensory descriptions are encouraged.
Possibly rewarded.
LET'S BREW SOMETHING STRANGE!
What Does Your Book Taste Like? is open to authors, independent presses, publishers, booksellers and literary partners.
Whether your book is already on its way into the world or you're planning ahead for a future release, we'd love to hear what you're working on.
No enormous formal proposal necessary.
Tell us:
What are you publishing?
When is it coming?
What are you imagining?
And, of course...
What does your book taste like?
